Sometime this afternoon, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi will have whacked her gavel hard to open the 2008 Democratic National Convention. Thus, this week's political festivities get underway and we may as well post about it as it occurs.
A welcoming address will be given by the shy and reticent Democratic National Committee chair Howard Dean, whereupon he will surrender the gavel to Pelosi. The first night's theme is "One Nation" and features tributes to former president Jimmy Carter and Senator Ted Kennedy. The latter will be in recognition of his struggle with the cancer in his brain and the former in recognition of his struggles to make do without one. Then things heat up to a fever pitch as the terrorist fist thumps will be delivered by hopeful First Sistah Michelle Obama. Will it be the Michelle as approved by the Obama campaign? Will it be the Michelle of The View? Will it be the Michelle so anguished over the racial divide in this country?
